Review for Themes From Venus Remastered in Issue #90

“What a nice surprise this is from the good folks at the new Propeller Sound Recordings! It is a real treat to have this slightly lost classic of the early ’80s Athens, GA scene so lovingly reissued. Though they were mostly known for their rather artsy instrumentals and there are a few of those on this album), this was their fourth album where these scene-mate contemporaries of R.E.M., Pylon, and The B-52s enlisted the mighty ears of Mitch Easter and focused on vocals (and doing that very well, I might add). The songs are more focused without losing the essence of what made this band special. It’s a wonderful collection of inventive, idiosyncratic and compelling sounds, and this reissue features bonus contemporaneous mixes by soon-to-be producer extraordinaire Brendan O’Brien.”
